We are massively pleased to announce that our Outside In House in Exeter is 1 of 16 projects that has made the shortlist for the RIBA Regional Awards in the South West of England.
We are honoured to have been included in the shortlist for the 2016 RIBA South West Awards. The awards will be announced at a special ceremony on the Grand Pier in Weston Super Mare at the end of April and we will be keeping our fingers firmly crossed. More information about the project can be seen here.
The Outside In House was one of the practices first commissions and is a great example of some of our priorities as designers. In a very small budget we have created a spatially rich and innovative house on a tight, highly constrained plot. Clever design and the use of utilitarian and agricultural materials and construction methods have helped to maximise the use of the limited budget.
A great honour and a very proud achievement for us all.
Being shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA awards is a great accolade in its own right. We are joined on the shortlist by some fantastic practices some of whom have international reputations including Peter Cook, Glenn Howells, Fielden Clegg Bradley and Loyn and Co Architects. The RIBA award scheme is the most highly considered architecture award scheme in the country if not the world and we feel very fortunate to be recognised alongside such big names in the industry.
The contrast between power floated concrete floors creating an industrial aesthetic and natural carpets providing an almost cottage tactility is one example of how the balance between modern and homely has been struck. Shelves and display areas have been designed in allowing plenty of opportunities for ‘customisation’ and in-habitation by the occupants.
